Halflings - or Hobbits - are a race indigenous to Continental Artograch.

On average, they are 130 centimetres (or 4 feet and 3.1811 inches) tall, weigh 45 kilograms (or roughly 100 pounds) and have a lifespan of 150 years. Halflings are a race of smart, inventive survivors and adventurers, known for their curiousity and boldness. They are easily seduced by riches, but they prefer spending money, for they are a race definitely not made famous by their frugality. Their skin is ruddy, their hair is typically either black, brown or red, and either straight or curly (never wavy), and their eyes are usually brown or black. Halfling men very often grow out their sideburns, but seldom do they also grow a beard or mustache. They prefer dressing for comfort and practicality, and in spite of their love of riches, they typically shun jewellery. They love to enjoy the little things in life, such as smoking pipeweed.

Native populations

Antanath

Currently, 350 Halflings live in the Community of Antanath, making up 100% of the community's population. They are all relatively recent arrivals - as recent as the state itself. They speak a reformed variant of the Halfling language and have revived the traditional Halfling religion.

Froturn

Currently, 224,200 Halflings live in the Kingdom of Froturn, making up 8.94% of the kingdom's population. Among other places, they make up the majority of the population in Noldó Ranga, and have a heavy presence in North-Eastern Froturn, where they have traditionally spoken the Western Halfling language, but now mostly speak their own Halfling-influenced dialect of High Elven - albeit, their traditional language was relatively recently revived, reformed and standardized.

Froturnish Halflings are traditionally a mix of sedentary farmers and semi-nomadic animal herders and seasional hunters. Their traditional hunting and herding grounds are the plains of North-Eeastern Froturn and the mountains of South-Eastern Froturn that border with Etrand.

Historically sovereign but disunited, the Halflings of Froturn fell under High Elven rule after the First Froturn-Etrandish War. This was followed by a slow and gradual decline of their traditional religion, with the Halflings gradually converting to Titanism under High Elven pressure. Their language fared slightly better until the first two centuries AEKE, which saw their autonomy revoked and their lands partially colonized by High Elven settlers, resulting in the Halflings dropping their native tongue in exchange for representation in the senate. Eventually, under the lax religious policies of King Cael'mus of Froturn, the originally Halfling religion went through a minor revival, tho the vast majority remained faithful Titanists. At the same time, their langauge also went through a revival, as well as reform and standardization.

Etrand

Currently, 47,000 Halflings live in the Kingdom of Etrand, making up 0.91% of the kingdom's population.

They can be divided neatly into two groups: the ones who live in Northwestern Etrand, forming the majority of the population in the Margraviate of Revel and a visible minority in the Margraviate of Ehren; and the ones who live in the Dwarven region of Northern Etrand, having always coexisted with the Dwarves and Gnomes as a third tagalong minority. Both have traditional spoken the Halfling language and practiced Halfling Paganism - the earlier largely abandoned them in favour of the Etrandish language and the Titanist religion (though many aspects of their original religion are still practiced to this day), while the latter abandoned their language in favour of Dwarven and their religion in favour of its dwarven counterpart (which is very similar and shares most of its deities anyhow).

Halflings living in Revel and Ehren are indigenous to the land - the Halflings of Revel even have their own nobility and clergy. Those Halflings who live amongst the Dwarves have traditionally found employment in Dwarven society as diplomats, scouts, treasure-hunters, bounty-hunters and skirmishers.
